Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Kickstarter is Live!
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 28, 2023 at 10:14:58 AM

Our Kickstarter for the Swords & Wizardry rulebook is now LIVE! In addition to the award-winning rules, the Kickstarter also contains a solo adventure module (The Doom of Malakar) and an introductory level adventure module (Legacy of Blackscale Lagoon). There are print-on-demand options available for the rulebook, too!

If you’d like to help us boost this project, we really appreciate it! Sharing the link on Facebook, Twitter, or any social media platform helps to boost a Kickstarter, and is especially helpful in the first 24 hours after launch. We rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth to advertise, because we’re still small enough that an advertising budget would cut into the product quality.

We think we’re the first of the retro-clone games to use the Creative Commons License rather than the Open Game License, and we’ll be allowing other publishers (and, of course, gamers) to use the rules in their own publications under a Swords & Wizardry license. We’ll start talking about the details of that once the Kickstarter has launched.

Thank you for backing the Swords & Wizardry Kickstarter! We’ll have more news later.

PS: We are told that the remaining 37 books for Europe have now arrived at the UK warehouse and are being shipped. We will continue to check in with the warehouse on this.

UK and EU Shipping
about 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 17, 2023 at 10:22:44 AM

We are told that the ship carrying the remaining/replacement books to the UK is expected to dock on or around March 22nd. We're not sure how long it will take for them to get to the warehouse after that point, but they will be shipped as soon as they arrive. Sorry for the delay on this -- it appears to have been longer than normal even for freight shipped by sea.

The Next Kickstarter: Swords & Wizardry Rulebook
about 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 09, 2023 at 11:29:19 AM

Our next Kickstarter is getting ready to launch! Please sign up to be notified for the launch of the Swords & Wizardry Complete Revised Rulebook

Swords & Wizardry was originally written in 2008 by Matt Finch, author of the Tome of Adventure Design. It’s an ENNIE award-winning retro-clone of the original 1974-1978 rules for Dungeons & Dragons*, an edition usually called Original D&D or OD&D. As with most early role-playing games, it is very rules-light by today’s standards, which makes it easy to learn and fast-moving to play.

All the rules for the game are contained in one book, 144 pages long, which includes everything needed to play. This new version is backward compatible with the earlier versions, containing several small changes, but nothing that changes fundamental rules.

For those who are familiar with the recent developments with the Open Game License, this new version of the rules is non-OGL. It uses the Creative Commons License, and will have an independent license allowing third-party publishers to use the Swords & Wizardry rules for creating adventures and even new games.

There will be both an offset-print version (the blue cover shown on the pre-launch page, which will have a high-quality sewn binding) and a print-on-demand version (the Erol Otus cover shown). These will have roughly the same final price to the backer before shipping – neither one is a “premium” or “deluxe” cover, although the blue offset print books will be of a higher quality than a print-on-demand press generates.

In addition to having a print-on-demand option, we will again use our fulfillment partners in the UK to lower shipping costs for UK, EU, Norway, and Switzerland customers. We will be using a new warehouse in the USA, because we have found a fulfillment company that’s very close to our house.

Thank you for supporting Mythmere Games, and we hope you’ll continue to find our books fun and useful as we move into the future!

--Matt and Suzy, Mythmere Games

*Mythmere Games is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, the publishers and trademark holders of D&D, and Swords & Wizardry is not compatible or designed for use with modern D&D -- it replicates a MUCH older version of the D&D game rules.

P.S.: If you are one of the 37 backers in the EU who have not yet received their copy Tome of Adventure Design, we haven’t forgotten about you! The books are on the way to our fulfillment location in the UK and should arrive soon. You will receive notification as soon as they ship.

For those customers in the UK and EU who missed the Kickstarter: we have made arrangements to make Tome of Adventure Design available for direct purchase - unfortunately, we still do not have an exact date for this. We expect to have more information for you in the coming months and will make an announcement as soon as we can.

Shipping Update
over 1 year ago – Thu, Jan 19, 2023 at 06:21:44 AM

We have been caught up in WotC's attempt to de-authorize the OGL 1.0, and apologize for the delays in updates. Most of the EU books have shipped (have not necessarily arrived), but there was a shortfall of 37 books, which are being shipped by air freight to the UK warehouse so they can finish the orders. All of the USA orders (the ones that had full information, payment, etc.) have been shipped. If you are in the USA and haven't received your book, please check to make sure that you have given BackerKit your payment information for us to collect shipping, which is responsible for the largest number of unsent orders. Now that the systemic problems with the shipping are largely dealt with, we should be able to start finding and solving individual ones over the next week.

Books Have Arrived at the UK Warehouse
over 1 year ago – Sun, Dec 25, 2022 at 03:15:55 PM

The books have arrived at the UK warehouse for the UK/EU backers, and we have paid the invoice, so the schedule is confirmed from the last update: emails should be sent to backers on Friday 30th of December for address confirmation, and then the books will begin shipping during the first week of January.

USA backers: to the best of our knowledge all of the USA books should be shipped at this point, including the replacement copies, although with the storm that has hit, they may not have moved far. Suzy and I will start checking for outliers (getting shipping confirmation from the warehouse on the "glitched" orders, any unshipped orders we can discover, people who didn't remember to pay shipping, etc., books that USPS returned, etc.) in the first week of January.

Have a great holiday!
